Language Issues
If your AI agent is speaking in the wrong language, not understanding the customer, or struggling with mixed-language conversations, use this guide.
Agent Speaking in the Wrong Language
Check these:
- Go to Dashboard → Agents → Your Agent and check the Language setting
- Check the campaign's language setting — if it overrides the agent, that takes priority
- Make sure the language matches what your customers speak
Agent Not Understanding the Customer
What it usually means: The customer is speaking in a dialect or mixed language the agent is not set up for.
What to do:
- If your customers speak Hinglish (Hindi + English) or switch languages mid-call, make sure the agent is set to handle multilingual conversations
- Go to Dashboard → Agents → Your Agent and update the language settings
- In the agent instructions, mention the languages customers are likely to use so the agent is prepared

Agent Responding in English When Customer Speaks in Another Language
What to do:
- Check that the agent's language is not set to English only
- Enable auto-detection if available, so the agent responds in the language the customer speaks
- Test with a Test Call using the language your customers speak
Agent Mixing Languages Mid-Conversation
What it usually means: The agent's instructions are written in one language but the conversation is in another.
What to do:
- Write the agent instructions in the same language your customers speak, or in both languages if needed
- Specify in the instructions how the agent should handle language switching
Transcript Showing Wrong Language or Garbled Text
What it usually means: The speech-to-text model had difficulty with a specific accent or regional language.
What to do:
- Check if the language setting matches the customer's spoken language
